Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)

Introduction

In pursuit of its action plan for performance evaluation, assessment, accreditation, and the quality upgradation of institutions of higher education, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bengaluru proposes that every accredited institution should establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a measure for quality sustenance. Recognizing that quality enhancement is an ongoing process, the IQAC is envisioned to become an integral part of the institution’s quality assurance system, working towards ensuring continuous quality improvement and sustenance.

The primary responsibility of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent, and catalytic improvement in the overall performance of the institution. During the post-accreditation period, institutions are encouraged to focus their efforts on promoting holistic academic excellence, including the implementation of recommendations from peer teams.

The guidelines provided in the following pages aim to facilitate the creation and operation of the IQAC. Establishing the IQAC marks the initial step toward institutionalizing and internalizing initiatives for quality enhancement. Its success hinges on a sense of belongingness and active participation in all institutional activities. The IQAC is not meant to be merely another hierarchical structure or a record-keeping unit but rather a facilitative and participative entity within the institution. It has the potential to serve as a catalyst for ushering in quality enhancement through planned and interventionist strategies, akin to Quality Circles in industries
